Investigating otolith mass asymmetry in six benthic and pelagic fish species (Actinopterygii) from the Gulf of Tunis

چکیده

Otolith mass asymmetry can significantly affect the vestibular system functionalities; usually, X values of vary between −0.2 and + 0.2 (−0.2 < 0.2). These change during a fish life therefore they are not related to total length. We collected 404 specimens from Gulf Tunis, including three pelagic species: Sardina pilchardus (Walbaum, 1792) (74 otolith pairs), Trachurus mediterraneus (Steindachner, 1868) (66 Chelon auratus (Risso, 1810) (60 pairs) benthic Gobius niger Linnaeus, 1758 (77 Mullus barbatus Trachinus draco (67 pairs). The relation length was first calculated compared, then evaluated. comparison species showed significant difference ( P 0.05), where absolute mean value does exceed critical (0.2) for all studied species. No has been found magnitude in both specimens. Environmental factors have an indirect effect on somatic growth accretion. this study be due environments.

polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons levels in sediment, benthic, benthopelagic and pelagic fish species from the persian gulf

in this study, three stations of the north persian gulf were analyzed in order to determinethe effect of trophic levels on the concentration of harmful pahs in fish and sediment. in all cases, similar distributions were observed in which benzo(a)pyrene largely predominated andbenzo(b)fluoranthene and pyrene were the second major compounds in fish tissues. the predominantcomponents of pahs in sed...

Preliminary data on the study of otolith morphology of five pelagic fish species from the Adriatic Sea (Croatia)

In teleosts, the inner ear is a complicated structure of canals, sacs and ducts filled with endolymph. Each otic sac contains the otoliths of a calcareous structure named sagitta, lapillus or asteriscus (BOND, 1996). The otoliths differ in size and shape. In most species sagitta otolith is the biggest one and mostly used in during the ageing of fish. Even though the otoliths inside the inner ea...

Distribution of trace elements in the tissues of benthic and pelagic fish from the Kerguelen Islands.

New information on the concentrations of Cd, Cu, Hg and Zn in the liver, kidney and muscles of eight marine benthic and pelagic sub-Antarctic fish species are presented to determine the importance of these metals in the marine systems of the Kerguelen Islands. Compared to the reported metal concentrations in other Antarctic fish species, the present results are globally within the same range of...

Essential fish habitats (EFH) of small pelagic fishes in the north of the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea, Iran

Small pelagic fishes particularly anchovy (Encrasicholina punctifer) and sardine (Sardinella sindensis) have an important role to support the Iranian fisheries and are distributed along the coastal waters of the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea. Using a logbook on small pelagic fisheries, a GIS-based environmental modeling approach was applied to investigate the presence and abundance of anchovy and s...
